The supply needs for western North Carolina have shifted a little
Orange Rural Fire Department, October 04
Several large companies and many private citizens have donated cases of bottled water. We are getting word that tractor trailer loads of water are now arriving so please refrain from donating cases of water. Still needed are baby food, baby bottles, cleaning supplies, generators, shelf worthy food that will last such as soups, packaged meals, etc... shovels, and money. To quote our Emergency Services ... Crews Returned Safe From Deployment

At 1400 hours this afternoon, our personnel that had been deployed to western North Carolina returned home safely. They are tired, sore, banged up and bruised but in good spirits and happy to be home. Running chainsaws and clearing trees using manual labor for five days in a row, you expect some tired and sore muscles. Update from Crews Deployed to McDowell County

We've been in contact with our folks on deployment to McDowell County. They are working long days clearing roads and helping the community to start the recovery from TS Helene. All of our folks are tired and sore but in good sprits and glad they were able to help. We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of all of our firefighters both deployed and here at home!

Here's how you can help Western North Carolina

Many truck and trailer loads of supplies have poured into the mountains this week. So much so that the logistics of handling all the donations have created a lot of work. We will continue to accept donations at our main fire station located at 206 S. Churton Street in Hillsborough until Friday. Anyone still wanting to donate is urged to drop off their donations before 5 pm on Friday.

Specific items are needed, including: food, bottled water, contractor-size trash bags, blankets, first aid supplies, feminine hygiene products, diapers and baby clothes, hand sanitize
