May 14-20 is designated as Peace Officer's Memorial Week. This is a good time to remember the fallen and to thank the living members of law enforcement agencies across the nation.
We go about our everyday lives feeling safe to travel the roads, walk the streets, attend concerts and other types of events without giving much thought to why or how it remains safe to do these things. Law enforcement agencies are the reasons we can feel safe traveling or being in crowds. Knowing that when bad things happen, the members of law enforcement will respond and take whatever actions necessary to stop the threat is part of our safety. Their existence likely leads to less dangerous events occuring as many fear being on the wrong side of them.
Over the next week please take a moment to thank a police officer, deputy, Trooper, or special agent for their service and willingness to go into harms way to keep us safe.
Law enforcement officers and their families, much like our firefighters and their families never know if the next dispatch will be just their next response or the last response of their lives. Whether you love law enforcement or think you hate them, you have to admit it takes a special breed of human being to be willing to put themselves in harms way for people they've never met, even when those same people may hate law enforcement and what they stand for.
Please join us in thanking our law enforcement families for the jobs they do keeping us safe. They aren't as cool as firefighters but they are some pretty amazing people.
In honor of Peace Officer's Memorial week, the lights at Station 1 and the Sign at Station 4 will be changed to blue.
