At 1645 hours this afternoon, A-Shift responded to a reported structure fire in the 2800 block of Miller Road just north of Hillsborough. Initial responding units reported a huge column of smoke visible from the stations. Engine 233 arrived on scene within thee minutes to find an approximately 2,500 square foot garage containing three cars, tools and an off road vehicle fully consumed by flames. Our personnel with assistance from mutual aid departments deployed multiple hose lines to control and extinguish the flames. The roof covering of the building was removed to gain access to hot spots and smoldering fires.
There were no reported injuries but the building and contents were a total loss. A nearby residence also suffered thermal damage as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Orange County Fire Marshall.
We would like to thank Eno Fire, Caldwell Fire, Cedar Grove Fire and Orange County EMS for their help with this response. We also want to thank New Hope Fire for covering additional calls while our units were tied up.
