At 11:34 hours this morning, B-Shift was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2111 Orange Grove Road. Upon arrival, crews reported finding a kitchen fire that was burning in the cabinets and wall around the cook stove. The fire was extinguished with a water/foam extinguisher. Firefighters opened up the wall around the burned areas and found a smoldering fire in the wall. All fire was extinguished and the apartment was ventilated to remove smoke. There were no injuries and the apartment was confirmed clear of occupants when the fire department arrived.
The occupant of the apartment stated that smoke detectors alerted them of the fire. This is a great example of how smoke detectors save lives. Make sure your home has properly installed and functioning smoke detectors.
We would like to remind everyone to watch what you cook. Never leave food being cooked unattended. If you need to be out of view of your stove, shut off the heat until you can remain in sight of what's cooking.
