TS Chantal brought heavy rains and winds to the district on the evening of July 6th. Many fire departments in the county responded to multiple trees down, flooded vehicles, people trapped by flood waters, downed powerlines and power lines on fire. In a period of approximately two hours, our personnel handled multiple water rescues, two downed trees, several flooded streets reports and several power line calls. Our boat and two members of our water rescue team were requested to assist with evacuations in Carrboro while one of our units assisted Cedar Grove with another call. Three people were transported by our units to local businesses and fire stations to be sheltered from the storm. All totaled, our personnel made a positive impact on approximately 65 people in a short two hour time period. The Orange County Emergency Communications 911 system were inundated with calls from throughout the county but as always they did an amazing job of balancing the demand and meeting the needs of our community and our emergency response agencies. Our citizens and visitors are fortunate to have the kind of teamwork and dedication that our fire, EMS, 911 and law enforcement team demonstrate every day. |
