At 0323 this morning, A-Shift responded to a reported structure fire with persons trapped at 200 Cheshire Drive, Building 23. Upon arrival, crews found an apartment unit on fire. Upon entering the structure, they located a burn victim. The victim was transferred to EMS while a primary search of the rest of the structure was being completed.
Crews extinguished the main body of fire and initiated overhaul operations to extinguish hot spots and to confirm fire spread had been contained. A secondary search of the building was completed.
Once the fire was out, the Orange County Fire Marshall and Hillsborough Police Department were requested to investigate the cause of the fire. Cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
Fire damage was contained to one apartment, the breezway, attic and roof. Water from the hose lines caused damage in the first floor apartment under the fire apartment. Of the ten units in the building, all but two were allowed to go back home. Property Management and the Red Cross were called in to assist the three displaced occupants.
One firefighter suffered minor burns during the response.
