Regardless of which side of the electric vehicle debate you beleive in, the fact remains that they are here to stay. With the increased popularity of electric vehicles comes an increased potential that our department will experience an electric vehicle fire related response. There also exists the potential for a response to a hybrid vehicle, electric lawn mower, leaf blower, scooter, etc.. that is impacted by a completely unrelated building fire where one or multiple of these items exist. Throughout the years, there have occasionally been issues with fossil fuel powered vehicles where they would catch fire after they had been parked and left unattended. A vehicle fire inside a parking garage or home garage has the potential to cause significant damage up to and including a total loss of the structure. A vehicle fire in a crowded parking lot has the potential to spread to other vehicles. These are the types of situations where the car fire blankets will be deployed in an effort to reduce property loss. Your local fire departments are always looking, researching and evaluating what's available to keep our communities safe. They are constantly evaluating responses, equipment and processes to try and be better prepared for whatever is needed.
