Earlier this week, many of our members started learning and practicing new skills necessary to rescue persons in distress using rope and hardware. As part of the North Carolina certification process for Technical Rescuer, our firefighters will complete several days of classroom, hands on and skills proficiency training to become rescuers. They'll learn about rope and hardware used in climbing and rappelling as well as how to rig for lifting and moving of people and things as needed to free a victim. Part of the training included learning about helicopter transport of equipment and victims. Upon completion, our personnel will have a basic working knowledge and ability to initiate a rescue whether that be from a vertical surface, cliff or hole. Upon successful completion of this training, they will go on to learn about vehicle extrication, structural collapse, water rescue and confined space rescue. We are forever grateful for our personnel and their ongoing willingness to do whatever is needed to best serve our citizens and visitors!
Huge THANK YOU and shout out to UNC Air Care! The best of the best helping train the next generation of America's Bravest!
