Does the Fire Department check blood pressure?
We'll be happy to check your blood pressure. Come by the fire station on Churton Street anytime during regular hours. For emergencies, call 911.
Why does the Fire Department block the road at accident scenes?
We block traffic lanes for the safety of our personnel and our patients. Blocking extra lanes keeps our personnel safe when they go back to our apparatus to get more equipment and helps protect the victims we are trying to stabilize. Over 25 firefighters are killed or injured each year while working at incidents on streets and highways.
Can I schedule a fire engine to visit my school/work/neighborhood?
We can arrange Public Education events. Contact the station at
919-732-7911 Monday-Friday 8 AM-5 PM or email us at
admin@orfd.net.
How do I get a burn permit?
Burn Permits can be issued for anyone living outside of Hillsborough town limits by visiting Station 1 (206 S Churton Street). Burn permits for outside of the town limits can also be obtained online through the
North Carolina Forest Service.
Why is my smoke/CO detector chirping?
Most modern smoke detectors will chirp to alert you that the batteries are low. You should replace the batteries and test your smoke detector. Smoke detectors can be purchased at any hardware or large commercial department store. Test your detectors monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
How does my Fire Department affect my home/business insurance rate?
Insurance premiums for both residential and commercial structures can be impacted by multiple variables, including installation of sprinkler systems, construction material, square footage, number of stories/floors, distance from a fire station, etc. Insurance costs are also impacted by the ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating of the primary fire department covering a home or business. Our current ISO rating is Class 3 and the next evaluation is scheduled for 2029.
