Confined Space Rescue Training

September 15, 2022

Our members along with members from New hope, Eno and Chapel Hill Fire Departments have been completing Confined Space Rescue training this week.
During the training, firefighters learn the hazards and how to's associated with making a Confined Space safe for entry and what it takes to enter into a space for a rescue or recovery of victims.
Throughout our communities, confined spaces are found in water and sewer systems, industrial plants, commercial buildings, schools and potentially following storms where significant structural damage could trap victims. The firefighters are equipped and trained to enter into thse spaces following injuries or accidents that render workers unable to get themselves out. This could be a medical emergency, accident or the results of a collapse or explosion.
Fortunately, confined space rescues are an extremely low frequency event but the risks to firefighters are phenomenally high so we train and practice to keep our personnel as safe as possible.
We would like to thank the UNC Environmental Health and Safety Department, Town of Hillsborough Utilities Department, TCC Enterprises, and Resco Products for their assistance and facilitation of our training. We couldn't do it without you!
