At 1542 hours this afternoon, A-Shift responded to a reported structure fire at 2111 Orange Grove Road just south of Hillsborough. An Orange Grove volunteer firefighter was close by when the fire was dispatched and responded directly to the scene. That firefighter contained most of the fire and reduced the amount of damage by quickly discharging a fire extinguisher on the fire. The first arriving engine was on scene within three minutes of the dispatch and reported smoke visible. A hose line was deployed to extinguish the remainder of the fire. Crews remained on scene for an hour checking and removing hot spots and removing water from the apartment. The cause of the fire was reported as an unattented cooking fire. Damage was limited to the stove, cabinets and wall around the stove. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents with shelter until their apartment could be repaired. We would like to thank Orange Grove, New Hope and Efland Fire as well as Orange County EMS for their assistance during this response.
